I can hear you already – “wait a minute most of my leads, calls, and even most of my sales I can attribute to my digital marketing efforts.” Yep, I believe that you do. And no this isn’t another fad-riddled sales pitch for your attention to “Social Media Marketing,” “Facebook Marketing,” or “Engagement Marketing.” As an aside, have you ever noticed that when someone doesn’t really understand a concept they re-label it so they can get away with not going into the deep end of the pool on the concept? Okay, back to my point about Digital Marketing being a recipe for failure…
In my 20+ years of automotive marketing experience I’ve found that the “good dealers” – the successfully profitable and ever growing in market share dealers are first and foremost good marketers. They understand the importance of their marketing their brand and they have an overarching thoroughly thought through strategy with a keen understanding of all of the various ways that they can (and do) influence their customers to continue bringing them back for service or upgrading them into new vehicles, and/or have those customers rave about them thereby bringing them more profitable customers.

They understand the product marketing efforts from their manufacturer. They study their market demographics persistently, they understand the impact that market demand has on their marketing strategies. They understand that all of their communications should be coordinated and consistent. They understand that brand and message consistency is as important as marketing persistency. They know the marketing fundamentals of message, reach, frequency, and relevancy… especially within finite budgets. They understand measuring their results with extreme detail and analysis. They start with a marketing plan – a strategy leveraged upon a unique market position – that includes all of the mediums and tactics or marketing. They know their market, they know the world they’re in. And today, they know that they’re in a digital world.

So you know what the best dealers do… they don’t do “Digital Marketing,” they market, in a digital world and they know the difference between the two. That’s why the good dealers are more profitable and more successful then most. They market, not just advertise, they MARKET in a digital world.

Their recipe for success is MARKETING: message, reach, frequency, relevancy in a digital world. They understand that their customers are online today more-so then they are on TV, radio, newspapers, or reading their mail. They appreciate and respect the digital world and its landscape and they relentlessly market in a digital world. Do you?

If you’re interested in a dialog around the acute differences between “digital marketing” and marketing in a digital world I’m happy to have a discussion about it with you. It’s what we focus on at pureinfluencer for our dealers.
